The National Authority for Tunnels is part of the Ministry of Transportation in Egypt and was established in 1983 for the implementation of underground metro projects. NAT is operating 3 lines of metro with total length of 93.3 km (57.97 mi) and a 4th line under construction of total length of 17.2 km (10.68 mi).
Following an international search in 2016, BECT was selected to lead a site supervision team to perform construction supervision of Kozzika rolling stock yard at an area of 67,337 m2 in Kozzika Cairo which is coordinated with Molinari Rail. Funded by European Investment Bank “EIB”, the workshop is considered to be a major addition to the service and maintenance points on the first line of Cairo metro. The National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) is giving Kozzika rolling stock yard a high priority as a light maintenance point for the new rolling stock of the first line.
The project includes track building (7 tracks for maintenance, 11 tracks for storing and 3 tracks for washing, washing area and washing machine building, civil maintenance and signaling building, compressor building rectifier station building and switch cabinet room.
BECT experts are revising designs, drawings and all project documents. In addition, a construction management team of experts are coordinating the works contracted for 3 groups of contracting companies, monitoring project progress and assessing risk management.
